Run-offs update: Voter turnout “too low”

Head of the High Elections Commission's operation room Ahmed Shawqi told Al-Masry Al-Youm that voter turnout for the runoff elections in most districts is “too low.”

Shawqi blamed the low turnout largely on the decision by the Wafd Party and the Muslim Brotherhood to withdraw from run-off elections.

He predicted a surge in voters in the final hours before the polls close, adding that he is making periodic contact with local governorate commission heads to check on the electoral process. Shawqi denied having had received complaints of vote rigging.
