The Antiquities Ministry has managed to stop the sale of a rare statue in a showroom in Germany after it was stolen from Egypt in 2013.
Antiquities Minister Mamdouh al-Damati said the ministry coordinated with the Foreign Ministry and contacted German authorities to remove the statue from the showroom.
The statue was found by the Swiss mission, which was working in Aswan in 2008. It was kept in the al-Fentin storeroom, which was robbed in 2013, said the minister in a statement Sunday.
The statue had been placed on Interpol's list of robbed artifacts, Damati mentioned.
General Manager of the Recovered Antiquities Department at the Antiquities Ministry, Ali Ahmed, said the statue is small in size, made of ivory and depicts a man carrying a deer on his shoulders.
