Saudi Arabia to close Al-Jazeera office

Saudi official said on Sunday that decision to close the Qatari Al-Jazeera network’s office will be carried out within a few days and that Saudis will be banned from writing or working for Qatari media channels.

The Saudi move comes one day after orders by information and culture ministries to Saudis who work or write for Qatari newspapers to stop.

Speaking to the London-based Al-Hayat newspaper, the official said that all the Kingdom’s official authorities worked together on arriving at the decision to close the Al-Jazeera office in Saudi Arabia and to prevent Saudis from writing or working for visual, audio, print or electronic Qatari media.

Correspondent to the Qatari official TV channel in Saudi Arabia Abdel Rahman al-Murshed had earlier announced a suspension of work for the channel, indicating that his decision was based on the political crisis between Qatar and each of Saudi Arabia, Emirates and Bahrain.

Emirati sources told Al-Hayat that instructions were given to stop cooperation with Qatar and preventing travel of Emirati officials to Qatar upon decision by the three gulf countries to withdraw their ambassadors from Doha.
