School year delayed for a week in embattled Giza zones

Giza Governor Ali Abdel Rahman decided to postpone the start of the school year at the schools in Kerdasa, Bani Megadwal and Nahya for a week due to the security conditions.

The rest of the schools in Giza will start at the scheduled date on Sunday.

The Governor said he has agreed with the Giza Security Department to intensify security services around schools, particularly in the areas of Berak al-Kheyam, Motamadeya and Abu Rawwash.

Fierce confrontations broke out between police forces and the armed elements in Kerdasa before the forces managed to control the situation. Fifty three suspects were arrested in the raid. Three of those arrested allegedly played a role in an assault on Kerdasa police station which killed 11 officers.

Abdel Rahman also said that the governorate will over the coming days carry out campaigns to address building violations and encroachments on agricultural land in a move to restore state prestige.
