Second Filed Army kills 8 IS militants in North Sinai

The Second Filed Army, assigned to secure North Sinai, killed eight militants believed to be members of IS affiliated group ‘Sinai Province’, on Wednesday. The attack was carried out in cooperation with the Egyptian Air Forces.

According to a statement released from the official army spokesperson, the operation also managed to destroy six stationing points used by militants to hide and store weapons.

“The destroyed stationing points included two stores containing 24 explosive devices, four vehicles, two motorbikes, in addition to a tunnel that is located on the borderline in North Sinai,” the spokesperson said in a statement.

Since 2014, the Egyptian Armed Forces have engaged in military confrontations with ‘Sinai Province’ militants, who have launched numerous attacks on army and police stationing points in al-Arish, Sheikh Zewaid and Rafah.

In response to recent attacks, the Egyptian Armed Forces launched a wide-scale military campaign to combat the militant organization, which has successfully eliminated a number of membersS — including the group’s former leader Abu Doaa al-Ansry.
