Sewedy to install $706 mn in power stations for electricity ministry

El Sewedy Electric has announced that one of its subsidiaries has signed two contracts for the importing, installation and test operation of six gas- and diesel-powered, electricity-generating units worth of US$706 million.

The company said in a statement sent to the Egyptian Exchange that it signed the contracts acting as a broker on the part of the Electricity Ministry.

The six units, representing two electricity projects, are scheduled for integration with the national electricity network by August.

The first project, composed of four units, will be established in Ataqa, Suez, with a generation capacity of 650 megawatts. The second will host two 330-megawatt units in Mahmoudiya, Beheira.

The units will be designed by Siemens and Ansaldo Energia.

The company illustrated that the two projects are part of Egypt’s emergency plan for increasing electricity production before the summer of 2015.
