Shafiq: Egypt govt will remain ‘as is,’ focus on security

The structure and mechanisms of government will remain "as is," with a focus on reestablishing stability and security, said head of Egypt’s interim government Ahmed Shafiq in a press conference on Sunday.

Shafiq said that the country’s economic situation was "good."

“Our domestic economy is strong and our strategic stockpile is sufficient for the coming period," said Shafiq, adding that Egypt's situation was "reassuring."

He added: "Our main concern as the Council of Ministers is…restoration of security for Egyptian citizens and the speedy elimination of their sense of insecurity." He said this would "proceed hand-in-hand with the facilitation of citizens' daily affairs and securing their basic needs."

In response to questions on why there had been a delay in the appointment of certain government ministers, Shafiq said, "We're in no hurry and we should not give this more attention than it deserves."
