Sisi instructs expansion of vaccination campaigns against COVID-19

President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi instructed the expansion of vaccination campaigns for citizens against coronavirus and the facilitation of procedures to access vaccines.

This comes in light of the recent increase of vaccines into Egypt and a continuous flow of all of the different types.

In a meeting held with Adviser to the President of the Republic for Health and Prevention Affairs, Mohammed Awad Tag Eddin, the continuation awareness programs stated that this campaign is for all categories of citizens to be administered with the vaccine.

This is in the hope that precautionary measures be taken to prevent infection of the virus, especially in crowded places, such as government facilities, universities and schools.

The meeting followed up the current epidemiological situation of the spread of coronavirus nationwide as well as a review of measures taken by the government to contain the spread of the virus. The vaccination campaigns are for the safety of the public, official spokesperson for the presidency Bassam Rady stated.

Tag Eddin presented the government’s efforts to equip all medical facilities with the vaccine and pointed out that a reciprocal plan was put into force for hospitals who would experience a high influx of intensive care usage and respirators in the coming weeks.

He stressed that the epidemiological situation in Egypt was under control, despite the approaching winter season and that the relative escalation in the number was due to the fourth wave of the pandemic.

The Ministry of Health confirmed that the frequency of vaccinations against the coronavirus will increase during the coming period with the expansion of vaccination centers. It added that 40 million citizens have been vaccinated with either the first or second dose.

The rate of vaccination of workers in the state’s administrative apparatus has reached 95 percent, official spokesperson for the Health Ministry, Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, said.

The rate of absence among employees, since the implementation of the Cabinet’s decision to prevent the entry of workers who are not vaccinated with the coronavirus vaccine to their workplaces is low, he added.

He added that the administrative body is more committed to vaccination during the past weeks and that workers and employees were vaccinated through vaccination convoys at government agencies or through the normal vaccination mechanism.

With regard to preventing unvaccinated workers from entering their workplaces, Abdel Ghaffar explained that the goal of the decision is to vaccinate the largest number of citizens to achieve health and safety measures. Employees who did not receive the vaccine would have to bring a negative coronavirus test periodically at their own expense and or proof of exemption.

Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research and Acting Minister of Health and Population, Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, stressed the need for continued coordination and joint follow-up between the Ministries of Higher Education and Health in completing the vaccination plan for citizens.

He referred to providing more fixed and mobile vaccination centers to facilitate citizens’ access to the vaccine, and providing isolation places, intensive care and emergency services necessary to follow up on cases of infection with the virus.
