Sisi, Putin stress on political solution in Libya

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi on Friday telephoned his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin, with Egypt’s presidential spokesperson Bassam Rady explaining that their communication exchanged views on the latest developments in the Libyan crisis.

Sisi reaffirmed Egypt’s steadfast stance towards putting an end to illegal foreign interference in Libya – which casts negative repercussions on the entire issue from all sides, and undermines efforts to achieve security and stability in the region.

Rady added that Putin affirmed his country’s desire to achieve a complete political solution in Libya.

The two presidents agreed to intensify joint efforts to focus on resolving the crisis, Rady said, through a comprehensive framework covering all elements of the issue, supporting efforts to combat terrorism and meet the aspirations of the Libyan people.

Rady added that during the telephone call the latest developments in the Gulf region were also discussed, with mutual stress placed on the importance of calm and non-escalation in order to preserve the Gulf’s security and stability.

Sisi and Putin also touched on topics related to bilateral relations, and their keenness to develop joint cooperation between in various fields, especially economic, trade and energy related.
