Sisi receives Erdogan at Cairo Airport in Turkish President’s first visit since 2012

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and his wife Emine Erdogan on Wednesday were welcomed by President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and his wife Intisar al-Sisi at the Cairo International Airport.

The Turkish President’s visit on Wednesday is his first to Egypt since 2012, representing a major step towards rebuilding relations between the two regional powers, according to Reuters.

Earlier, the official spokesperson for the Egyptian Presidency Ahmed Fahmy said that Sisi is scheduled to hold expanded discussions with his Turkish counterpart.

The talks will address advancing joint efforts to strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries, and touch upon many regional issues and challenges such as establishing a ceasefire in Gaza and the implementation of humanitarian aid to Palestinians.
