Sisi warns regional crisis could trigger global economic repercussions

President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi said the region is going through difficult circumstances, expressing hope that the current war will end as soon as possible and warning that its repercussions could lead to a regional and global economic crisis if it drags on.

The president cautioned that prolonging the crisis could have serious economic consequences, particularly amid expectations of rising petroleum product prices.

Sisi made the remarks during an iftar banquet hosted by the Police Academy in the presence of Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, Interior Minister Mahmoud Tawfik, Assistant Interior Minister and head of the academy Nidal Youssef, ministers, Police Academy students and their families.

According to Presidential Spokesman Mohamed al-Shenawy, Sisi stressed the importance of learning from the lessons of of 2011 challenges to avoid repeating them.

He noted that the past 15 years witnessed the collapse of several states, praising the Interior Ministry’s success in quickly restoring its capabilities and implementing comprehensive development of the security system as part of broader efforts to modernize state institutions.

The president said the Ministry of Interior has overcome numerous challenges over the past decade, particularly in combating terrorism and extremism stemming from misconceptions and ignorance, stressing that the greatest threat facing any nation is ignorance.

He thanked the ministry for its efforts to maintain stability and security, noting that its work over the past decade has gone hand in hand with efforts to combat terrorism.

Sisi also highlighted the development of correctional facilities, noting that 48 prisons have been transformed into seven modern reform and rehabilitation centers aimed at providing programs that help reintegrate inmates into society. He directed that visits be organized to allow the public to learn about the experience of these centers.

He further praised the role of the Police Academy in preparing and qualifying its students, noting that the Interior Ministry’s development efforts extend beyond infrastructure to investing in human resources, whether among security personnel or inmates at rehabilitation centers, adding that modernization remains an ongoing process.

The president underlined the importance of national unity and acting wisely to overcome current challenges, noting that the past five years have been economically difficult due to successive global crises that Egypt has managed to navigate.

Sisi also stressed the need for police officers to treat citizens well and concluded his remarks by praying for the protection of Egypt and for the country to overcome the current crisis.
