Soldier killed, another wounded in North Sinai mortar bombing

An army soldier was killed and another was wounded Monday when a mortar rocket hit a security outpost in Sheikh Zuweid, North Sinai.

Security sources said the rocket was launched from a remote location, adding that army forces are combing the area in search of the attackers.

Sinai has seen a series of bloody attacks on security and army forces since the ouster of Mohamed Morsi in 2013. Islamist militant groups had claimed responsibility for the attacks.

Egypt’s National Council for Human Rights says 700 army personnel and police officers have been killed since June 2013.
