Stock exchange drops 1.6%

The Egyptian stock exchange slid Sunday amid slow trading. The EGX 30 shed 103 points to close at 6277 points in total dealings of LE650 million.

Stocks of 145 companies went down, while 31 gained. CIB, Hermes, Orascom Constructions, and Orascom Telecom all lost between 0.5 and 2.0 percent.

Meanwhile, the stock exchange administration suspended the Egyptian-British Company for Securities for a month and the United Group for Securities for two weeks for violating money market regulations.

The administration also found irregularities at a third company, the board members of which used the company’s funds to finance other projects.
