Student protests at Mansoura University

About 20,000 students of Mansoura University staged demonstrations on Sunday, in protest against two faculty deans running over their fellow students with their cars.

The students cordoned off the administration building and prevented some 1700 staff members from leaving. They demanded that all faculty members resign and free elections be held to replace them.

“What the students did is unacceptable,” said Abdullah Sorour, president of the Faculty Staff Syndicate.

In Alexandria University, students reported Law Professor Mohamed al-Ariny to the police, claiming he pointed his gun at them and threatened to shoot when they went to his office to protest bad grades on their final exams.

“Ariny has a blank-firing pistol,” said Ahmed Hindy, dean of the law school, denying that he pointed the pistol at the students and saying he just placed it on his desk.
