Sunday marks first winter rain

Rains fell on Sunday for the first time this winter in some governorates, which caused traffic jam for students and employees on their way home.

In Daqahliya, the rain obstructed the paths of both vehicles and pedestrians. Traffic also was backed up in many cities throughout the province of Kafr al-Sheikh. Sailors could not fish at the Mediterranean or at Borollos lake.

In Damietta, heavy rains caused a traffic jam on the agricultural road. Fishing was also affected by the bad weather.

Mamdouh al-Sheity, head of the public relations department at the Damietta port authority, said the port received around 20 ships, adding that navigation returned to normal.

Waheed Saudi, spokesperson of the National Meteorological Authority, said the temperature will continue to drop. Rains will fall on the northern coasts, especially in the east at Rafah and Arish. Light rain is expected in Cairo and Delta.
