Tantawi testifies in Mubarak’s trial

Field Marshal Hussein Tantawi gave his testimony in the trial of former President Hosni Mubarak on Saturday morning.

Tantawi’s testimony, which he gave in a closed session, was shorter than those of other key witnesses, who were questioned for hours by the court.

Outside the courthouse, the situation was calm and security maintained a strong presence. Around 300 families of the revolution's martyrs flocked to the place. They chanted, “Field Marshal, say the truth, did Mubarak order the shootings or not?”

Only 10 Mubarak supporters were outside.

Tantawi’s testimony was originally set for 11 September, but was postponed due to fragile security conditions following an attack on the Israeli Embassy in Giza.

Only a few lawyers were allowed to attend the session.
