US President Donald Trump has extended the ceasefire with Iran until Tehran presents its proposals and negotiations are completed.
Trump wrote on his Truth Social account: “Due to the sharp divisions within the Iranian government, which was to be expected, and at the request of Pakistani Field Marshal Asim Munir and Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, we have been asked to suspend our attack on Iran until its leaders and representatives present a unified proposal.”
“I have instructed our armed forces to maintain the blockade and remain vigilant in all other aspects. Therefore, I will extend the ceasefire until their proposal is presented and the discussions conclude, whether with acceptance or rejection.”
The Tasnim News Agency reported that despite the media frenzy and rumors circulating among US media outlets and officials, the Iranian negotiating team announced through a Pakistani mediator that it would not be in Islamabad on Wednesday.
The semi-official agency confirmed that there is currently no opportunity to participate in the negotiations.
The agency reported informed sources as saying that Iran agreed to the ceasefire and subsequent negotiations to end the war based on the ten-point framework it presented, which the US also accepted.
However, according to the same source, the US began reneging on its promises in the following days.
The agency noted that the US did not enforce the ceasefire in Lebanon on Israel, thus completely violating its commitments, and this issue has posed serious obstacles in negotiations for several days.
Tasnim explained that America issued excessive demands in the first round of negotiations in Islamabad, which in fact violated the previously agreed-upon framework, leading to a deadlock in that round of talks.
