Two bombs defused in Cairo, Monufiya

Police defused two bombs on Wednesday, one outside a bank in Zamalek, Cairo and another placed at the entrance of al-Khatatba Bridge at the city of al-Sadat, Monufiya.

The bomb in Monufiya was composed of a butane canister connected to a cell phone and a pesticide can. Officers managed to deflate the canister and confiscated the phone’s chip.

Egyptian security has been struggling against frequent bomb plots targeting army and police personnel since the ouster of former president Mohamed Morsy.

While security blames Morsy’s Muslim Brotherhood for standing behind the attacks, the group denies responsibility and reiterates peacefulness in its quest for Morsy’s reinstatement.
