Vaccination of tourism staff in Red Sea, South Sinai to accelerate before June: official

The vaccination of tourism workers in the Red Sea and South Sinai will speed up and expand before the beginning of June, Deputy Minister of Tourism and Antiquities for Tourism Affairs Ghada Shalaby said.

She added, in a statement to al-Watan newspaper, that about 95 percent of workers in Sharm el-Sheikh have been vaccinated with the first dose, as well as more than 85 percent of the workers in Hurghada.

The vaccination campaigns are moving along quickly and smoothly, with full coordination between officials from the Ministry of Health and Population, the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, and the Tourism Establishments Chamber, Shalaby said.

Upon completion, Egypt will have an additional advantage in attracting the influx tourists during the coming period, she said, adding that Sharm el-Sheikh and Hurghada are especially bracing for an uptick in tourism as Russia announced the resumption of flights to the Red Sea resort towns.

Atef Abdellatif, a member of the South Sinai Tourism Investors Association, said that Russian tourism companies are waiting for all tourism staff in the Red Sea and South Sinai before resuming trips, hence the swift and efficient campaign.

The vaccination is very important to attract large numbers of tourists in the coming months, he said.

Vaccination campaigns for 100,000 tourism workers in the Red Sea and South Sinai began on April 1.
