Video|Gaza to Melbourne: Palestinians worldwide launch music video, ‘A Lover from Palestine’

Palestinians everywhere celebrated as the new song “Ashiq min Filastin” (A Lover from Palestine) was released on August 16 by Sol Band and Nahed Elrayes.

The song was recorded in music studios by Palestinian 20-somethings under siege in Gaza, living as refugees in Istanbul, and born in exile in Melbourne.

The lyrics are those of Palestinian poet’s Mahmoud Darwish, and the group said that his words “affirm that our homeland was and remains Palestine.”

The song’s video, created by director Mahmoud Abughalwa, tells the story of Palestinians under siege in the forests of Europe, seeking refuge and thinking of Palestine.

The video clip was shot in all three locations, during the time when Gaza was under siege and attack and coronavirus regulations were changing daily.

According to the group, Palestinian youth see these events in their lives as challenges to overcome, and artists are able to harness this energy to break barriers and challenge injustice with beautiful resistance.

The song was released on August 16 on Nahed ElRayes’s Youtube channel and on August 18 on Sol Band’s Youtube channel.
