Wafd Party chief: Elections only way to a national salvation government

Wafd Party chief al-Sayed al-Badawy has called on Egyptians to insist on holding the parliamentary elections as planned, saying it is the only way to a national salvation government.

However, there are no indications that the upcoming parliament is allowed to form a government, as per the constitutional declaration passed by the ruling Supreme Council of the Armed Forces.

In a statement issued on Sunday, Badawy said “the scenes are being repeated like a nightmare seen at times in which the state was absent and thuggery prevailed instead of laws.”

“We’re now passing through a different stage, as it’s days ahead of elections,” he said.

Badawy further said that “Egypt’s enemies, inside and outside, are trying to make the revolution fail, because they know its success means the start of a democratic transition. They know Egypt will become the most democratic country in the region.”

The statement called on Egyptians to help enable elections to be held on 28 November as scheduled.
