Wafd Party to run in Peoples Assembly elections

The opposition Wafd Party’s board of directors met on Thursday to discuss the recent Shura Council elections. Members of the board accused the ruling National Democratic Party (NDP) of “overstepping” the rules of democracy and announced their rejection of the election results.

Board members also said that the elections did not reflect the true will of the public, insinuating that the races had been rigged in favor of NDP.

However, board members said the party still planned to contest the NDP in all future elections, including upcoming elections for the Peoples Assembly, despite the “tricks” played by the NDP.

The board plans to bring the matter up before parliament in the next few days to request that anyone found to have tampered with the elections be brought to account.
