
The management of Spanish giants FC Barcelona has decided to face Egypt’s Al Ahly SC in a historic friendly match as part of the upcoming edition of the annual Joan Gamper Trophy.
According to a report published by the Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo, Al Ahly will be Barcelona’s opponent in the exhibition match. The report highlighted that Barcelona will take on a team boasting a massive fanbase across Egypt, Africa, and the Arab world. Additionally, Moroccan journalist Ashraf Ben Ayad, who is close to the Catalan club, confirmed that the Egyptian powerhouse will serve as Barcelona’s opponent in the upcoming edition of the tournament, which is held annually as a warm-up for the new season.
The highly anticipated fixture between Al Ahly and the Catalan club is scheduled for August 19, marking Barcelona’s season opener at the Camp Nou.
The match aligns with Barcelona’s strategy to strengthen ties with prominent Arab clubs while capitalizing on the Red Giants’ massive popularity and commercial pull throughout the Middle East.
