Wizz Air set for 300% growth in Egypt with 4-million-passenger expansion

Wizz Air Holdings is accelerating its expansion within the Egyptian market as part of a strategic roadmap to increase its passenger volume to the country by 300 percent by the end of 2027.

This move represents a high-stakes bet on the burgeoning demand for low-cost carrier (LCC) travel connecting Europe and North Africa.

According to Saif Bahgat, CEO of NSAS Travel—the airline’s General Sales Agent in Egypt—the carrier plans to triple its operations, reaching 240 weekly flights to Egyptian airports, up from its current frequency of 80.

Regulatory approvals and regional focus

The company has formally petitioned the Egyptian Civil Aviation Authority for increased operational capacity. This expansion specifically targets inbound tourism from Europe, with a primary focus on the high-growth markets of Central and Eastern Europe.

Management aims to transport 4 million tourists to Egyptian destinations by the end of 2027, a significant leap from the 1 million passengers recorded in 2025.

New routes and strategic corridors

The expansion strategy involves inaugurating new flight paths from nine European nations: Macedonia, Romania, Bulgaria, Slovakia, Poland, Lithuania, Armenia, Albania, and Moldova.

The distribution of these new weekly frequencies is highly targeted toward Egypt’s primary tourism hubs, including Sphinx International (Cairo), Hurghada, Sharm El-Sheikh, and Marsa Alam. Key allocations include:

  • Poland: 45 weekly flights.

  • Romania and Albania: 27 weekly flights each.

  • Slovakia and Lithuania: 10 and 7 weekly flights, respectively.

  • Emerging markets: Additional frequencies from Moldova, Macedonia, Bulgaria, and Armenia.

Current operations and growth context

Presently, Wizz Air maintains 80 weekly flights to Sharm El-Sheikh, Hurghada, Marsa Alam, Sphinx, and Borg El-Arab, primarily operating out of Italy, the United Kingdom, and Austria.

The proposed scaling of operations underscores Egypt’s rising status as a pivotal low-cost destination and Wizz Air’s commitment to dominating the budget corridor between the EU and the Mediterranean.
