Women Entrepreneurs in Action: Fashionista Bazaar

On 17 December Le Pasha Boat in Zamalek will hold the fashion event of the festive month, Fashionista Bazaar. The day will start at 10 AM and end at 10 PM and will host 30 home based exhibitors.

"The idea for Fashionista Bazaar came from the high demand of small home business projects," says Yousra Madbouli, organizer of the bazaar and co-founder of La Toalla for home accessories. Products range from home accessories, textiles and furniture, to crystal peeling, chakra reading and Reiki healing. As a business owner, Madbouli has taken part in many bazaars and having to deal with her own dissatisfaction, a lack of organization and hostility from other exhibitors is what made her start up her own yearly event and gather many designers and fellow business owners under the same roof. This year is her fourth event, she says proudly.

"Shibshiby," the flip-flop manufacturer started at one of my bazaars but now they have created some brand recognition and they are on their own," says Madbouli.

Madbouli was mainly approached by potential exhibitors through Facebook and by word of mouth. "I would contact some of them and ask for samples of their work to guarantee the quality of their product," she says.

The bazaar will feature some of the most prominent designers in town like Hana al-Awadi for jewelry design, Madbouli's own business La Toalla for home accessories and women's fashion, Gigi al-Wakil and her furniture collection, women's accessories by Rola Naguib, women's clothing by Sara al-Wakil, and many other brands. "There will also be a makeup booth for the newest makeup brand where visitors can have their makeup done for free," says Madbouli.

"My aim is quality not quantity," she adds. Having an eye for details has enabled Madbouli to provide a comfortable environment for her exhibitors.

So whether you are an avid shopper or a small entrepreneur, Fashionista Bazaar promises a sneak glimpse into the world of fashion and small businesses, as well as an entertaining day out.
