Ambassador: Meeting expected between Sisi, Ethiopian PM

Ethiopian Ambassador to Egypt Mahmoud Dardir has revealed an invitation to President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi to visit Addis Ababa.

In remarks to the London-based Asharq Al-Awsat newspaper published on Wednesday, Dardir said he “anticipated that a meeting between Sisi and Ethiopian Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn will take place on the sidelines of the African Summit, that will be held in Malabo, capital of Equatorial Guinea, after two weeks. There will be talks over the joint ministerial committee.”

“We now witness return of the water to its correct path between Egypt and Ethiopia. It’s the base for establishing relations based on mutual confidence as well as ties that suit two ancient civilizations in Africa for two peoples who have relations that we in Ethiopia consider as eternal,” he said.

“There will soon be ongoing communications on the highest level between the two countries. The first meeting will be between the Ethiopian Prime Minister and President Sisi,” Dardir added.

“Ethiopian Prime Minister who visited Egypt recently invited Egyptian president to visit Ethiopia,” he said.

“We said water has returned to the correct path between Egypt and Ethiopia, thanks to the wise leadership of the two countries,” he added.

Regarding the Ethiopian Renaissance Dam issue, Dardir said, “We do not confine our relations with Egypt to the Renaissance Dam issue, which our foreign minister said will be resolved in the future.”
