Colder winter expected in Egypt

Temperatures will drop significantly starting next week and a colder winter is expected this year, said the head of the Egyptian Meteorological Authority Ahmed Abdel Aal in a phone interview with Ten and Al-Hayat channels on Monday.

Cold weather started early this year, as temperatures usually turn cold around December 22, said Abdel Aal.

The winter this year will be colder than previous winters, he said, adding that minimum temperatures in north Upper Egypt governorates like Minya, Assiut and Sohag could reach 3C in the early morning.

It would become as cold as 1C in North Sinai, he added.

Meteorological Authority spokesman Wahid Saudi, however, denied that this winter would be very cold or different from previous ones. He said the weather would remain a bit cold in daylight and become very cold at night.
