Constituent Assembly session called off over low attendance

Hossam al-Gheriany, the head of the Constituent Assembly, postponed the assembly’s Wednesday session to next Tuesday after a number of members failed to attend.

Assembly members were intended to discuss the role of monitoring bodies, independent authorities and the State Commissioners Authority.

By 1 pm only 25 of the assembly’s 100 members were present, even though the session was supposed to start at 11 am.

Gheriany said the session was put off due to protests outside the Parliament building and the failure to meet the quorum requirement to begin the session.

Major General Magd Eddin Barakat, the representative of the military judiciary, and Mohamed Abdel Qader, the Farmers Syndicate chief, were both angered by the decision to call off the session.
