Interior minister: Elections commission would decide whether Mubarak can vote

The decision on whether ousted President Hosni Mubarak can vote is up to the Presidential Elections Commission, Interior Minister Mohamed Ibrahim said in an article published Sunday.

“We are committed to the administrative court ruling concerning the allowance of detainees to vote in the presidential election,” Ibrahim told independent newspaper Al-Shorouk on Sunday.

The ousted leader is currently being held at the International Medical Center and faces charges of ordering the killing of protesters during last year’s uprising.

An administrative court previously ruled on 10 December in favor of political activist Alaa Abd El Fattah, enabling him to cast his vote in the parliamentary elections.

The High Judicial Elections Committee sent a judge to Tora prison along with a ballot box to allow Abd El Fattah to vote.
