St. Eugene Church classified as antiquity

The Board of the Supreme Council of Antiquities has agreed to register the St. Eugene Church in Port Said as a Coptic antiquity.

Mohamed Abdel Latif, head of the Islamic and Coptic Monuments Department, said the church is the oldest in the city, as it was built in 1890 on the ruins of an old church.

“It is built in a European style that combines elements of classical and Renaissance architecture,” he said.
