Al-Azhar grand sheikh performs Friday prayers at Rawda mosque

The Gand Sheikh of Al-Azhar, Ahmed al-Tayyeb, performed Friday prayers at al-Rawda mosque, accompanied by the Endownents Minister, Mokhtar Gomaa, and the Grand Mufti, Shawky Allam.

This comes one week after the mosque was the site of a terrorist attack which killed 310 worshippers and injured over 120 others.

Tayyeb, accompanied by senior Azhar leaders, will visit the families of victims after prayers.

He will also send a message about the spread of terrorism which has claimed the lives of innocent worshipers, and reaffirm that the Egyptian people and all state institutions stand against terrorism.

Between 25 to 30 militants, who were seen to carrying the flag of the Islamic State, were responsible for Friday’s attack on the al-Rawda mosque, according to a statement issued by Public Prosecutor Nabil Sadek on Saturday.
