Activist Anas al-Assal, a paramedic at the field hospitals in Tahrir Square, says an anesthetic drug was injected in his right arm when he was kidnapped Friday.

Assal told Al-Masry Al-Youm he was at home on at dawn when a group of people knocked on his door. When he opened it, someone hit him on the head and he lost consciousness. When he woke up, he found himself in a sealed concrete room.

"Someone interrogated me, but I do not remember the details of the conversation clearly," said the paramedic.

Anas was given a medical examination at a poison control center. The medical report indicated that he had high levels of the drug Tramadol in his blood.

Doctors are keeping Anas at the center under observation for 24 hours.

Malek al-Assal, Anas' brother, said that a nurse from al-Helal hospital called and told them Anas was there after an ambulance had brought him in unconscious.

Alaa Al Aswany, a best-selling Egyptian author and columnist, commented earlier on the kidnapping of both Anas al-Assal and “No to Military Trials Campaign” activist Ahmed Ibrahim Saeed. "President Morsy is primarily responsible for the Egyptians' rights and dignity. Either he stops the kidnapping, beating, torture and military trials of civilians, or else he leaves," he tweeted.
