Former UN Secretary General Boutros Boutros Ghali expressed his optimism Tuesday that Egypt’s future would be bright in the coming years.

Ghali, who celebrates his 90th birthday Wednesday, said that the future will be bright as long as there are Egyptian leaders who believe in standing up for Egyptian interests, and expressed his confidence that Egypt will restore its standing in the region and the world.

“We shouldn’t fear the other,” he said, stressing the importance of dialogue and adding that the world became more connected than before.

Ghali also added that there is a correlation between democracy and human rights, progress and development, adding that Egypt has no choice other than the path of democracy, justice and equality.
