Police have arrested four Chinese women, aged 25 to 40, in connection with a prostitution ring out of a beauty salon in the upscale Maadi district of Cairo, an Egyptian judicial source said Monday. Investigations are currently underway.
The source told Al-Masry Al-Youm the women were being detained for a period of four days by the public prosecutor. Their embassy was notified to arrange their defense, the source added.
Estimates show there are between 60,000 to 100,000 Chinese residents in Egypt employed in various professions. Lately, an increased number of Chinese street vendors have appeared in Cairo streets selling their wares door to door. This trend has caused some, including trade unionists, to raise concerns that these vendors are taking jobs away from Egyptian workers.
In the past few years, Egyptian-Chinese trade has experienced a boom with bilateral trade reaching US$5.86 billlion in 2009. The low prices of Chinese goods has led to an increased demand for them in the Egyptian market.

Thanks to comments # 3. Yes, I meant foreign. I didn’t mean neither forgiven nor unforgiving. To # 4; I am surprised that it took five days to find out this mistaken word. Bravo.
What's a forgiven oil expatriate? Can it be eaten? And who should be deported, the prostitutes, the forgiven oil expatriates, traffickers, or people that cannot write proper English yet they feel compelled to share their racist comments with the rest of the world?
Perhaps Mr. Badawy should know that some of these women might have been trafficked against their will to Egypt and those who should be sent to jail and prosecuted are not the women but their traffickers and clients (whether foreigner or - shock horror! - Egyptians). It's all too easy to make the easy part of the problem disappear by deporting the women instead of tackling the root causes of the phenomenon (the demand for prostitution from both Egyptian and foreigners).
i think mr badawy meant foreign oil companies???
and thank you guy from Sun (im assuming the newspaper here?)
well said!
It is well known that Maadi district of Cairo is full of wealthy forgiven oil expatriates. We should strength the police in order to eliminate these activities. At the same time, immediate deportation should take place.
