‘“The fatwa [religious edict] that calls for killing ElBaradei was issued by an incompetent man,” said Grand Mufti Ali Gomaa, pointing to an earlier edict issued by Mahmoud Amer, a leader of the religious group called Ansar al-Sunna.

Amer said the authorities had the right to kill or imprison reform campaigner Mohamed ElBaradei for inciting civil disobedience.

Ansar Al-Sunna also denounced the edict and said in press statements on Sunday that it would take legal action against Amer.
