High school students protest attendance, discipline grades

Dozens of high school students protested outside the Education Ministry, on Sunday, against Minister al-Helaly al-Shirbiny’s decision to add 10 marks for “attendance and discipline”.

The protesting students said the decision “threatens equal opportunity among students, especially since it excludes home-based students and international school students”.

"That decision is a failure”, “no to the 10 marks”, read signs hoisted by the protesting students who threatened to boycott school should the ministry proceeds with applying the new measure.

Mohamed al-Naqib, who heads the so-called Union of Egypt’s School Students, said the education minister told him in a meeting that he was not going back on his decision concerning the new 10 marks.
