Violence at the Israeli Embassy and the Giza Security Directorate in Cairo, which erupted Friday night and continued until dawn on Saturday, has left three dead and 1049 injured, the Ministry of Health announced on Saturday.

"Three bodies were taken to different hospitals," said the ministry in a statement, without clarifying the circumstances surrounding the deaths.

The statement added that 217 people were hospitalized and 832 received first aid at the scene. It said most of the injuries were cuts and bruises.

The ministry said in an earlier statement that one person died on arriving at hospital from the scene, due to a heart attack.

Meanwhile, Reuters quoted an Israeli official as saying Israeli Ambassador to Cairo Yitzhak Levanon, his family, and members of his staff arrived in Israel on Saturday morning, and that only one Israeli diplomat has stayed in Cairo.
