Youssef al-Qaradawi, Islamic preacher and head of the International Union of Muslim Scholars, has been placed on a wanted list for airport arrivals by top prosecutor Hesham Barakat, according to judicial sources on Saturday.
Qaradawi is charged with inciting the killing of protesters and Egyptian soldiers as well as inciting violence against state institutions and calling for foreign interference in Egypt, according to the judicial sources.
The public prosecution received seven claims against Qaradawi including that of lawyer Tareq Mahmoud. “Youssef al-Qaradawi, who obtained the Qatari nationality and has been living there for over 40 years,” Mahmoud said in the claim, “has consistently attacked the Egyptian state represented in the institutions of the police and armed forces after [30 June protests] who ousted Mohamed Morsy, the president and leader of the terrorist group the Muslim Brotherhood.”
The claim added that Qaradawi also belongs to the international organization of the Muslim Brotherhood.
“The defendant balantly incited against the army in [recordings] displayed through Al-Jazeera channel where he accused the Egyptian army of killing its people and described the Israeli army as better than the Egyptian one as it has not done to the Egyptian people what the Egyptian army is doing to its people,” according the complaint. Mahmoud claimed that Qaradawi called for foreign interference in Egypt and called for jihad against the Egyptian armed forces and police.
Qaradawi’s speech caused the escalation of terrorist operations carried out by terrorist groups supporting the Muslim Brotherhood, resulting in the death of large numbers of army and police personnel and the killing of 25 soldiers in Rafah and other operations, Mahmoud mentioned in the claim.
Mahmoud called for holding Qaradawi responsible for these crimes for inciting a strife and violence.
