Mahalla workers threaten to escalate protests

Workers of the Mahalla Spinning and Weaving Company, who have been on strike for two days, have threatened to escalate protests on Saturday if the 10 percent bonus decreed by President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi is not disbursed.

Speaking on condition of anonymity, a worker said management showed them a copy of a decision issued by the Finance Ministry, which contends that they are not eligible for the bonus.

Kamal al-Fayoumy, a leading figure of the company’s labor union, said a delegation of workers will request to meet with the prime minister and the president.
