Minister: No danger from locusts in Sudan

Egypt will cooperate with Sudan in facing Egypt-bound locust swarms, Agriculture Minister Salah Mohamed Abdel Momen said Tuesday, assuring that locusts that are reportedly near the Sudanese side of the border do not pose a danger to Egypt.

Abdel Momen said that “pesticide squads” are fully prepared to counter the locust swarms, sayng that the situation is under control.

The minister added that ministry workers are fighting the locusts in several border areas.

A number of farmers had reportedly stressed that swarms of locusts are spreading in Halayeb and Shalateen, south of Egypt, warning that their existence threatens agriculture in southern Egypt.
