Naval forces rescued 17 sailors from the village of Borg Meghizal, Kafr El-Sheikh Governorate early Saturday morning, after they sent out a distress call on the Mediterranean Sea.

Said Abdo Nassar, head of the Kafr al-Sheikh fishermen’s syndicate, said that the sailors were onboard the boat “Abou Hamadah al-Maharem,” when their boat malfunctioned during inclement weather in the area of Ras al-Hekma, near Marsa Matrouh.

The boat sent out a distress call to the Navy, who contacted a Spanish boat nearby. The Spanish boat came to the sailors’ aid before the Navy arrived at the scene and towed the boat to shore.
