New project to be carried out in new cities for collective transportation

The New Urban Communities Authority ( NUCA ) signed an agreement with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) to carry out a study for a plan over collective transportation, using buses on main roads in the cities of New Cairo, 6 October and Sheikh Zayed. Separate lanes will be allocated.

Kamal Fahmy, vice-chief of NUCA for development affairs of cities, said, “The agreement was signed with the following attendants present: representatives of the authority, the General Organization for Physical Organization, the bodies of New Cairo, 6 October and Sheikh Zayed cities, EBRD and an Egyptian partner, and comes with the interest to resolve the problem of collaborative transportation at the new cities and linking them to the external transportation lines.”

“The separate lanes for buses will give them priority to move, especially at cross-roads. They will be equipped with modern information technology, mobile networks and traffic control centers to reduce the duration of trips and provide comfort for commuters and at a good price,” Fahmy added.

“The project will end the problem of uncivilized transportation means, which do not conform to the nature of these cities. It will be carried out through companies specialized in collective transportation in participation with NUCA,” he said.
