Qallash: Journalism has turned into a slave trade

The newly-elected head of the Journalists' Syndicate has said the journalism field has turned into a “slave trade”, stressing that his priority would be to improve journalists' economic and social condition.

Qallash, in an interview with Dream satellite channel late Tuesday, said the journalism market has been draining young journalists in return for syndicate membership, pointing that the syndicate’s job is to defend both its members and non-members in the field.

Qallash vowed to work for the release of detained journalists, adding that a panel of lawyers, human rights activists and journalists will be assembled to communicate with officials and prosecution services to that end.
