Security forces in Luxor have started imposing new procedures on archaeological sites, hotels and other tourist areas in the governorate.

The new measures are part of an emergency security plan that was implemented on Sunday evening after the attack on the Egypt-Israel border in Sinai.

Security officers were stations at all entrances to the city of Luxor and on all roads leading to archaeological areas, hotels and other places where foreign groups congregate.

Major General Hosni Hussein, a detective with the tourism and antiquities police in Upper Egypt, said that patrols have been increased in these areas, as well as on Nile islands and in mountainous regions of the governorate.
