Sentry, 3 Brotherhood supporters killed in Damietta clashes

A sentry and three Brotherhood supporters were killed in violent clashes that broke out in the early hours of Saturday morning in the village of Basasra, in Damietta.

The clashes took place during a security crackdown on Brotherhood affiliates who had been involved in violent riots since last Tuesday.

The riots escalated on Friday when the Brotherhood affiliates tried to block the international road and the railway following the detention of 16 members of the group, including 13 women and a girl, who had staged protests on Tuesday that resulted in 22 people injured.

Clashes continued Wednesday morning after a soldier was killed and an officer was wounded in confrontations between security forces and Brotherhood affiliates in Basasra.
