A number of suspected smugglers exchanged fire on Thursday evening with border guards in North Sinai, leading to no injuries on either side.

A security source in Sinai said that the security guards saw a group of what they believed were smugglers attempting to approach the international border to the south of the Rafah crossing. They chased the alleged smugglers and exchanged fire with them before the suspects escaped.

The same source added that police are currently searching for the perpetrators and the concerned authorities were notified to investigate the incident.
