Train traffic was blocked in both directions between Cairo and Upper Egypt for about three hours on Wednesday, after a front carriage of a train was derailed at the barrier of Thaqafa in the city of Sohag, just one kilometer away from Sohag Railway Station.

The incident was reported to Sohag security department, who then sent a delegation to the site and with the help of specialists from Egyptian National Railways moved the carriage with a crane.

There were no casualties. The incident, however, caused all trains on the line to be delayed for three hours, including trains between Alexanderia and Luxor, Cairo and Aswan, and Naga Hamady and Assiut.
