The Endowments Ministry has instructed imams and preachers to advise people to actively participate in the referendum on the constitution, without influencing their opinions.

It has also urged them to explain that voting has nothing to do with heaven or hell.

At a press conference Tuesday, the ministry denounced defamation of the president, the opposition or imams, demanding that the law be applied to anyone disrupting religious rites.

Ministry spokesperson Salama Abdel Qawy said mosque pulpits are no place for voicing opposition, and asked imams to report anyone using them in this way.
