12 arrested in Fayoum over Friday protests

Twelve people were arrested on Saturday for taking part in protests on Friday supporting deposed president Mohamed Morsy.

Fayoum Security Directorate said demonstrators violated the law on protests, which requires prior authorization before demonstrating, and used fireworks that led to the injury of three people.

The statement by the directorate added that one of those arrested was found to have US$50 in his possession, hinting that this is somehow evidence of foreign involvement.

The protesters also reportedly fired weapons during the protests.
