18 persons injured in bus crash on Ismailia-Cairo Road

Egypt’s Ministry of Health and Population stated that 18 persons were injured after a bus turned over and collided with several cars on the Desert Ismailia-Cairo Road on Sunday.

Ministry of Health spokesperson Khaled Megahed added that the ministry dispatched 14 ambulance cars to the scene of the incident and transferred the victims to the public al-Salam Hospital.

Meghahed mentioned that the victims suffered post-concussions, pelvic and spinal fractures, internal bleeding, cutaneous wounds, abrasions and bruises in various places in the body.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), Egypt loses about 12,000 lives due to road traffic crashes every year. It has a road traffic fatality rate of 42 deaths per 100,000 persons. The majority (48%) of those killed are passengers of four-wheelers, though pedestrians also constitute a significant proportion (20%) of these fatalities.
